(Geo) Phone Tag is a participatory sound map that uses the ubiquitous telephone as an input device. It came out of the Forest Hills Sound Map, where preparation for each field recording was slow — binaural mics mounted just so, levels and parameters set. A recording made after a long setup is a different thing from one made spontaneously, and I wanted to see what happened if the obstacles came down. Lowering the barrier makes it easier to invite others to contribute. The focus here is on vocal recordings, since the telephone is not a good field recorder.
