Spencer Kiser

Hello there!

I’m a technology leader with 20+ years helping cultural institutions transform their digital presence and organizational practices.

At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, my work has spanned mobile development, API architecture, contributing to the institution’s Open Access initiative, and currently leading web modernization efforts — building sustainable systems and collaborative teams throughout.

Before joining the Met, I worked in Digital at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), where I contributed to the development of moma.org, the native MoMA Audio+ app, and hands-on gallery experiences.

My background combines field recording and sound design with a long-standing practice in coding. I hold a master’s from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP), where curiosity and experimentation were central. That experience taught me the value of creating environments where people can explore ideas without fear of failure — an approach I bring to building both user-centered systems and collaborative teams.

My work focuses on sustainable technical practices, championing open-source solutions, and creating collaborative environments where both technical excellence and professional growth thrive.
